Estudio observacional de las brisas de valle en terreno heterogéneo: caracterización vertical y horizontal en el valle de Aure (Pirineos)

Abstract

This research focuses on the observational analysis of nocturnal downvalley flows in a southern French valley near the Pyrenees. Deploying meteorological stations and launching radiosondes, the study investigates the intricate interactions between synoptic conditions and local surface processes. Notably, strong westward synoptic forcing inhibits downvalley flow formation, while moderate synoptic forcing combined with the valley's north-south orientation allows nocturnal flows to develop. The study also delves into atmospheric stability, utilizing Richardson bulk numbers to discern thermal-induced turbulence from dynamically-driven turbulence. The findings underscore the need for comprehensive observational studies considering both synoptic and surface processes, with a particular emphasis on local topography.
