Oceans for Future (OFF). Análisis de los cambios en la predictibilidad de las temperaturas estivales en la península ibérica

Abstract

Oceans are able to store heat and release it to the atmosphere altering it. This feature gives predictability to the system. Nevertheless, oceans are storing too much heat and it is still unknown how the atmosphere will respond to this change. OFF project aims to build a decision making tool to identify the regions with potential predictability from ocean conditions, based on an assessment of ocean driven teleconnections impacting on Mediterranean and North African climate in future scenarios. To this aim, observations and models under historical and future conditions will be analyzed, with applications on energy, health and marine ecosystems. This work shows how teleconnections affect meteorological variables such as temperature and precipitation in the Iberian Peninsula, one of the most affected areas by climate change in Europe.
